Privacy & Student Data

Who can see photos, how student information is protected, and FERPA and COPPA questions.

Who can see photos?

Only the advisors of your school. Photos are kept in private storage and nothing is ever made public. Families who upload cannot see other families’ photos or anyone else’s students. The founder and staff of The Yearbook App never view or review your photos.

Who approves uploads?

You do. Every family and staff upload waits privately until an advisor at your school reviews it.

Is The Yearbook FERPA and COPPA compliant?

The Yearbook is built to support schools that follow FERPA and COPPA. Your school stays responsible for its own photo-release and student-records policies. The app acts on your school’s behalf, uses student information only for your school’s purposes, and is not meant for children under 13. Students do not create accounts.

Do you sign district data agreements?

No. The Yearbook App does not sign school or district data privacy agreements. Here is the reason: the app is built so that no one at The Yearbook App ever views or reviews your photos or student information. A signed agreement would carry obligations — security audits, formal reviews, contractual commitments — that we are not staffed to fulfill, and we will not sign a promise we cannot keep. Everything we would promise in that agreement is already written in the Privacy Policy, and your district is welcome to review it.

Do you sell or share student data?

No. Student information is never sold or used for advertising.

If something isn’t working

My district wants a data agreement.
Share the Privacy Policy and Terms of Use links. If they ask why we do not sign one, the reason is simple: no one at The Yearbook App ever views your photos, and we will not sign a promise we cannot keep. The Privacy Policy is the complete statement of how data is handled.
A family wants a photo removed.
Open the photo and delete it, or set it aside in review. It is removed from your school’s space.
