Upload Troubleshooting
When a photo won’t upload, here are the usual fixes.
Start here
Almost every upload problem comes down to one of three things: the file, the connection, or a pause in the middle. Nothing is lost. Try the steps below in order.
Check the photo file
- File type
- JPG and PNG work best. If your photo is a HEIC (common on newer iPhones), open it once and save or share it as a JPG.
- File size
- Photos straight from a phone can be very large. A photo under 10 MB uploads smoothly. Sending it to yourself by email once usually shrinks it.
- File name
- Very long or unusual file names occasionally cause trouble. Renaming the photo to something simple, like spring-concert-1.jpg, helps.
Check the connection
- Look for the wifi symbol or try loading another page.
- If you’re on school wifi, guest networks sometimes block large uploads — try a phone connection if you have one.
- Choose the photo again and try once more. A slow upload can simply need a second chance.
If the upload freezes
- Leave the page open for a minute — large photos can look stuck while they finish.
- If it truly stopped, choose the upload button again. Your photo is safe on your device either way.
- Still stuck? Close the page, reopen it, and start the upload fresh.
If it still won’t work
You can always try again later. Nothing you’ve entered disappears between attempts.
If something isn’t working
- The upload spins forever.
- The file is probably too large. Save a smaller copy of the photo and try again.
- I see an error right away.
- Check the file type — JPG and PNG are the safest. Then refresh the page and try once more.
- My photo uploaded but looks wrong.
- Open the Moment, choose a new photo, and save. You can replace a photo anytime.
- A family member can’t upload.
- Share the Community Uploads guide with them — it walks through the steps from their side.
